Vivid LIVE will host a special performance from Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE this May as part of their newly announced joint headline tour. The appearance coincides with the release of their collaborative double album POMPEII // UTILITY, produced by SURF GANG. The Vivid LIVE show forms part of the international run supporting the album, bringing the longtime collaborators to Australia following the project’s release.
Longtime collaborators and friends Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE have announced their collaborative double LP POMPEII // UTILITY, arriving April 3 via 10k/Tan Cressida/Surf Gang Records. Alongside the announcement, the pair shared the project’s lead double single and music video, “Minty // Earth.”
The 33-track album is produced by the NYC-based collective SURF GANG, with founding producer Harrison playing a major role in shaping its sound. Years in the making, the project brings together the worlds of Earl, MIKE, and SURF GANG following a long history of collaborations and mutual support dating back to when Earl first championed MIKE during his rise in New York’s underground hip-hop scene.
POMPEII // UTILITY highlights the duo’s strong creative chemistry, focusing on collaboration, community, and shared storytelling. The album’s concept draws inspiration from the eruption of Pompeii, reflecting themes of creation and destruction while capturing the feeling of a moment “frozen in time” that emerged during the recording process.
The two-part music video for “Minty // Earth,” directed by Ian Lopez and Richard Phillip Smith, mirrors the album’s double-LP structure, with MIKE leading the first half and Earl the second. The release precedes their upcoming Home on the Range tour, which will include 26 US stops beginning in June before heading to Europe.
