ATLAS FRANKLIN ALEXANDER – Top 5 Favourite Things To Do In Hobart

1. Definitely first up, go to MONA. I highly recommend doing psychedelics before entering. Get deliberately lost inside it.  Let the building swallow you whole. Refuse to read the summaries. Interpret everything wildly. Emerge victorious.

2. Go to Hobart’s bioluminescent kayaking tours, night time freak out. Get in and you glide over the dark water in a see-through kayak lit from beneath, spotting fish darting around under you like some sort of cosmic soup.

3. Kunanyi / Mount Wellington towers over Hobart like a slumbering god, take one of the lesser-known scrambles up to the Organ Pipes. Bring a volume of Rilke, or yell your own nonsense. Fun times

4. Hobart is the gateway to Antarctica, and the Australian Antarctic Division  is a low-key vibe haven. While access is limited, you can often catch public events, science talks, and seasonal exhibitions. You’ll see ice core samples, thermal survival gear, and meet researchers who’ve literally lived on the ice for months.

5. Hastings Caves & Thermal Springs. Take a day trip south of Hobart, explore enormous dolomite caves and then soak in a naturally heated pool surrounded by rainforest. It’s part spa, part jungle, part ancient geological marvel. Steam rising from warm springwater while wallabies watch from the ferns.
