KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD’s “Flying Microtonal Banana” out now

Following the frazzled freakbeat of 2016’s Nonagon Infinity LP, the magical mayhem of the nationalGizzfest tour and their last loud summer lap on Laneway Festival, endlessly inventive rock ‘n’ roll septet, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard release their new LP Flying Microtonal Banana today! Flying Microtonal Banana, released via Flightless / Remote Control Records, is the band’s ninth studio album in five years, and the first of five to be recorded and released in 2017.

Flying Microtonal Banana is King Gizzard’s first-ever experience in microtonal tuning, which features intervals smaller than a semitone and not found in customary Western tuning octaves.

“Earlier this year we started experimenting with a custom microtonal guitar our friend Zak made for Stu,”explains drummer Eric Moore. “The guitar was modified to play in 24-TET tuning and could only be played with other microtonal instruments. We ended up giving everyone a budget of $200 to buy instruments and turn them microtonal. The record features the modified electric guitars, basses, keyboards and harmonica as well as a turkish horn called a Zurna.”

King Gizzard also announced special intimate 360 degree, in-the-round format, Melbourne only shows to launch Flying Microtonal Banana. Five shows at The Night Cat have sold out and a sixth show is now on sale. Tickets via
