Mackay’s River Sessions to Return in June 2019

River Sessions will return to Mackay on the 29th of June 2019. After a triumphant come back in 2018 at Queens Park, we will be changing venues to J.M. Mulherin Park at the Mackay Harbour. This is due to major renovations taking place at Queens Park to revitalise the venue for future festivals and events. Although the festival will temporarily change locations, festival organisers are extremely excited about the new venue with its tropical atmosphere and picturesque surroundings.

The River Sessions Line-up will be announced on Monday the 8th of April and tickets will go on sale on Wednesday the 10th of April. The complete line-up will be announced on the 8th of April, other than the one lucky local band who will be selected to open the festival.

“J.M. Mulherin park is one of the most well know parks in Mackay. It’s where most locals grew up playing on the giant Fred Flintstone or digging sand on the mini excavators,” said River Sessions Director, Adrian Young. “It also bears the name of one of our most respected families, a family that has contributed greatly to our community. River Sessions will continue the Mackay community’s affinity to J.M. Mulherin park. We believe it’s the perfect location for the event this year, combining a beautiful tropical setting with close proximity to the city centre.”

Saturday the 29th of June is the same weekend that River Sessions has always occupied. The weekend falls within the school and university holidays. Winter in Mackay is the perfect weather to get out in the sun with clear skies and warm temperatures.

“We know we have some of the best weather in the country. We want to draw some southerners up North, away from their cold winters, to our beautiful city to enjoy the festival and our local hospitality,” said River Sessions Director, Michael Delaney.

The festival’s return this year will be on a smaller scale, returning to its roots to create a boutique event. The festival will present one stage featuring very high-quality Australian artists.

River Sessions will also feature 10 local food vendors; giving ticket holders access to a wide variety of culinary options during the day. The festival’s purpose is and always has been to provide a safe, comfortable and inviting atmosphere for ticket holders to enjoy great music and a fantastic event with their friends.
