Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are taking 2019 by the horns! Announcing a new single in ‘Bill’s Mandolin’, a new album in ‘And Now For The Whatchamacallit’, their largest national Australian tour to date as well as a highly anticipated appearance at SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS, new UK/European tour dates, international festival dates, a worldwide signing to Marathon Records and Australian signing with Caroline Australia, the Perth rockers have laid down the gauntlet for another busy, fruitful year.
The band’s new single, ‘Bill’s Mandolin’ comes at a perfect time for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. The band, having enjoyed sold out tours through the UK and Australia, have solidified themselves as more than just the Australian buzz export. Eight sold out shows through the UK, plus an impressive debut tour of the US encompassing fourteen shows and a splash at SXSW have turned Psychedelic Porn Crumpets into a strong formidable force on the international stage. Rotation and airplay support for recent releases by Triple J and BBC Radio 1 have bolstered the band’s approach and has extended their reach. The band has carved out a space all their own, and their new single reflects the strength and dynamism continuing to flourish within their ranks.
LISTEN TO THE NEW SINGLE ‘BILL’S MANDOLIN’ HERE
Taken from the band’s forthcoming record, ‘And Now For The Whatchamacallit’, ‘Bill’s Mandolin’ is another slice of manic Psychedelic Porn Crumpets fury. A continuation of the musicianship fans have seen grow and bolden over the band’s last year of releases, this new single positions them more than ever as a band ready to explode with exciting energy. “When we were in the U.K on our last tour I was given my Grandad’s old mandolin/lute thing which I remember playing as a kid. It was such a nice gift that I had to take back to Australia, the only problem was it didn’t have a case and we had an entire tour in front of us which spanned most of Western Europe plus Australia. I carried it through plenty of customs, slept with it, took it out to pubs, navigated the streets of Amsterdam and passed out with it. It became the tour emblem and once I got back to Perth I felt like I’d done the old girl justice. I wanted to write an Ode to Bill and the travels with the mandolin that summed up the tour and sounded as chaotic as the adventures that ensued.“ Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
The band’s third studio album, due out May 31st, marks an exciting new chapter for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. Recorded between Jack McEwan’s bedroom and Tone City Studios in Perth, mixed by Michael Jelinek (Gunns) and mastered by John Davis (Gorillaz, The Killers), And Now For The Whatchamacallit is representative of the band’s huge developed sound, and is their most anticipated release yet. “The original concept was to take a 1930’s carnival that had been re-imagined for future generations, a collage of Punch and Judy, Carousels and coconut shy’s that progresses in musical concepts and travels with the listener. Then as we started traveling I was swept off into my own kind of circus, the odyssey of touring life. Large nights out, larger characters, drunken recollections of foreign cities and rabbit hole-ing into insanity (kindly illustrated by Quentin Blake)”. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
Spurred on from international successes through the UK and the USA, where they performed at SXSW for the first time and sold out shows in both LA and New York, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets returned home to Australia in fine form, sights firmly set on tackling The Great Escape in the UK next. Sharing a blistering live show with fans at home and abroad is something the band is well versed in, and taking to the coveted stage at Splendour in the Grass this July is another tick off an extensive bucket list. Ahead of their Splendour appearance, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are hitting the road for their biggest Australian headline dates in June supported by RAAVE TAPES, including a massive homecoming show at Perth’s Astor Theatre.
The band’s upcoming 20 date international tour will see Psychedelic Porn Crumpets also perform at a selected run of festivals including the UK’s Y Not Festival and Truck Festival, while also supporting Interpol in Germany this May and hitting the Summersonic Festival in Tokyo and Osaka in August.
This massive tour news also coincides with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets signing with Marathon Records for global territories while working with Caroline Australia on a domestic front. Marathon Records, home to the likes of Honeyblood, Jagwar Ma, Jen Cloher and Courtney Barnett, represents some of the world’s most exciting and diverse names, making this new partnership with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets one made in heaven.
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are lapping up the road-dog lifestyle through 2019, with extensive tour dates locked down for Australian and British fans. If the band’s last runs of shows through each territory were anything to go by, these tickets won’t be hanging around long!
